This is a hard time for our family and we're crushed. This is how we managed to turn this hard time into a positive moment for the family.
This is one of the toughest challenges our family has faced in a long time.
It’s easy to wallow in our sorrows and be defeated. 2020 tested everyone to their core and if there’s anything that I personally learned from 2020 it is this: DON’T BE SURPRISED BY ANYTHING. Well… 2021 hit us right out the gates.
Our family has been hit with a few challenges that have made me want to scream. And they all seem to be happening at THE SAME TIME.
This kind of stuff makes me ask, “Why God? Why are you doing this to me?”
Recently Carrie’s health declined drastically to the point where Michelle and I had to talk about Carrie's future. I'm sad to say that it’s time to lay her to rest. This has been an incredibly sad moment for our family because Carrie has been around for all the kids' lives including 14 years of our marriage. She’s 14 years old and she has cancer in her jaw. After removing a growth in her mouth in December 2020, the doctor told us that her time is EXTREMELY limited.
Well that time has come now. This led to us taking Carrie for a final walk as a family yesterday. There were so many tears. We took a vlog for our Be Authentic Fam YouTube channel so we can have a moment to always recall whenever we miss Carrie. It will be edited and posted within a week or so.
We walked with Carrie along with taking pictures and allowing her to smell every blade of grass that she decided to stop and smell. At the end, Carrie raced the kids home off her leash and we all celebrated her once she got to the driveway. It was a moment etched in time.
This challenge is one OF MANY that we’ve had to emotionally endure and conquer. So how do we remain positive in a sad moment like this?
Simple. We celebrate the good moments we had with Carrie.
After filming our vlog, we sat around and told our personal stories of Carrie and the silly and crazy moments we had with her. There were more tears during this moment but also good laughs.
It was good for the kids to cry and laugh during this moment because this is what life is all about. It’s not about having the most money, living in the biggest house or being the most popular. Life is about the moments you share with the ones you love.
So if you’re going through a challenging time, rise up and conquer it. The challenge will be brief and you have what it takes to get through it. It’s okay to shed some tears and it’s also okay to have some good laughs.
Carrie we love you forever! You’re the best dog ever! May you run abundantly in Doggy Heaven and be sure to be ready to greet us when we meet you on the other side!
We love you!
Stay positive,
Fred
